My Last Review about 2007...I Promise : Miscellaneous Edition

Just some quick hits about the year that was. It's definitely been quite the ride, a ride that some of use will choose to forget and others long to remember. No matter your opinion on '07, the world keeps turning and a lot of things got poppin'. Take some notes, in no particular order.
  • First, I want to thank 2007 for introducing me to my Corinne Bailey Rae - she looks and sounds like an angel. I want to lay with her and talk about space.
  • The rise of the one-hit wonder. From the nursery-rhyme flow of MIMS on "This is Why I'm Hot," (by the way WHERE IS JAE MILLZ!?) to the anthems of Hurricane Chris's "A Bay Bay" to arguably the song of the year in Soulja Boy's "Crank That."(a.k.a '07's version of Young Joc's It's Goin' Down). It was a HUGE year for the one hit wonders - let's hope they can top that in '08.
  • The Genius that is Steve Jobs. From a new I-Pod every few months to the arrival of the must-have I-Phone - Mr. Jobs knows how to make millions, and so does his new business partner, none other than Mr. Jay-Z (a.k.a. Shawn Carter) - yup, apparently, Apple and Hov are joining together to create a recording label - I don't know what type of artists will be singed, but I know just as well as anyone, it's gonna be big! The two revolutionaries will undoubtedly reshape the Digital Music era.
  • Boxing's Dead? Since When...? What a year for boxing and it's fans - in '07 we saw the highest grossing fight in boxing history and 2.5 million fans checked in. Then, we were hit off with a handful of other great fights, including the 2nd highest grossing fight of the decade and the highest grossing fight in Europe. Looks like boxing needs stiffer competition to really put it to sleep. Wake me up when it happens - MMA is good though, just not on the same level just yet.
  • The Black Presidential Candidate. Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is the federal government's Rookie of the Year, he plans to take it to the next level in '08 by launching a huge presidential campaign. And some African-Americans still aren't satisfied, let's make history first - worry about so-called Blackness second. Let Mr. Obama be the trend-setter for a new day in politics and then let's run with it. Either way, it looks like history is going to be set - the Democratic bid will either be won by a woman or a Black man. Sucks for John Edwards, because he's really the most qualified and suitable.
  • The Disappearance of the Black Female Hip-hop artist.Where have they gone? Instead, the arrival of "Fergilicious" and "Promiscuous" came to light. The big-3 (Remy Ma, Foxy Brown, and Lil Kim) all served time in '07 - lets hope they make a comeback whenever they come out again, even though Lil Kim is back and Trina is trying to make a comeback, we need the rawness of Remy, Foxy, and Jackie.
  • The Jena Six/Racism. Never died, probably never will - a sick reminder this year, hanging nooses from trees and in military offices - will white people ever be secure with the inevitable?
  • Paris Hilton with a slight tan and a banging body. Her name is Kim Kardashian - eye candy at it's finest - but a horror to listen to - and the IQ of a rock.
  • Entrepreneur Ray-Jeremy. The disappearance of his music career, the arrival of a porn directing career. He came out with dis song for B2K!! But he did direct his porn with Kim Kardashian - he should be her publicist.
  • Fresh New Eye Candy. Lauren London hit the scene hard, but definitely relaxed the eyes - ay, the woman is fly - definitely a Dapper Girl - she just needs better taste in her partners.
  • Beyonce Flicks and Trips. One of the sweetest pieces of eye candy found herself on both her beautiful bottom and her face this year, she also got a picture from one her shows photo shopped to make it seem like her "magic box" as 50 calls it was exposed to everyone - it was photo shopped.
  • Hip-Hop takes the blame. Unfairly for all of America's problem - which makes no sense. All of these things were happening way before hip-hop - that's why artists talk about it so much because it's what they're fed. Don Imus blamed his racist rants on hip-hop - makes no sense - he said what he said because that's the way he feels - not because hip-hop made him feel that way. What an idiot. One of the few good things that BET did in '07 was the "Hip-Hop vs. America" two part series - it was a phenomenal series addressing the hip-hop game and lifestyle. Addressed what was wrong, but at the end of the day, BET will be BET and MTV will be MTV - and show the same music videos - or lack their of, instead of countering off what was discovered.
  • "The Best Rapper Alive?"The so-called best rapper alive is always in the studio and recorded/featured on probably a hundred songs in '07. Too bad he has nothing to show for his fantasies, not even his past albums. His next album (The Carter III) is going to sell regardless, but for his sake, I really hope it's not horrible or with just a few good songs like the previous 2 Carters.
  • Go Head Switch the style up...40Lx40W jeans and 4XL tees are outta here in mainstream urban society (about time) <>
  • Finally though, Music is the ultimate winner in '07 - still alive and fans were blessed with classic albums, movies, and entertainment. On to '08, keep on truckin' and don't look back too much.
